Alarm Clock

Alarm clock, I hid it somewhere
It’s not by my bed, dear; it’s in my head.
It’s set to go off not tomorrow, nor the day after…
It’s personal, it’s internal, for the day I wake up.
The day I choose to wake up.

I fell asleep as vampires do when they’ve lived to long.
I live but I slumber, I feel and think but don’t react.
The living dead and I are waiting for a moment to arise,
A reason to walk the earth; re-learning what emotion is
My emptiness is as wide as the ocean is.

I try to shove in love, I shove in you, I shove in life
And I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe.
The smiles and hellos we pass are to deceive,
Show me your back, I have a gift for you,
With a friendly pat, I’ll run you through.

This is our day
This is our age.
Welcome to the new world
Friends are more deadly than enemies.

This is our day
This is our age.
Welcome to the new world
Friends are more deadly than enemies

I just want to be free, free of all the social needs
I don’t need love from those who will leave.
I don’t need hate from those who will stay,
God is God and every dog has his day,
Hold my skull and say “he was a man, I knew him well”
